basking in the success of its grand opening, the new Wellsville Creative
Arts Center has some room left in its inaugural classes due to start
next Monday. Marshall Green, executive director of the facility said, "Eight classes are already filled. Wheel throwing is huge. Everybody just wants to get into the clay." So far 80 students have signed up for classes and many classes still have spots open in both the teen and adult sessions. "We've had a tremendous response, but this is the last chance for registration. We're going to keep it open just through the end of the first week of classes," Green said. The coffee shop part of the building will open for the first musical performance hosted by the Center. The opening is scheduled for Oct.14, when Kris Kehr and Julie Edlow will perform acoustically an eclectic mix of pop, country and folk music. Tickets for the performance can be purchased now, online. After that, Green said the coffee house will be open on a daily basis. "It will be a nice place for people to come in and drink coffee and use their laptops," he said. Classes being offered are Introduction to Ceramics, Drawing/Painting, Wheel throwing I and II, Sculptural/Hand Building, Painting I and II. Parent/Kid classes scheduled for saturdays will start Oct. 21 with print making. Classes start Monday morning and class registration are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Green said, "The Wellsville Creative Arts Center is proud to offer a diverse selection of one-day workshops for arts, crafts and music. For more information pertaining to specific workshops go online at www.wellsvillecreativeartscenter.com The one-day workshops include: Wellsville's own Dianne Antonelli Chandler who will be hosting four cooking workshops starting with Northern Italian Cuisine which is already booked solid, Fall Harvest Bounty is on Oct. 26, Heart Smart Budget Gourmet on Nov. 2, and Magnificent Speedy Breads on Nov. 9, 2006. "She is just wonderful. she knows everyone and everyone is anxious to take her classes," Green said. In 1971 Chandler won a place at the Pillsbury Bake-Off in Hawaii by entering her date filled, pecan sticky buns. She has owned a home-based catering business in Newark, Delaware and also designed and baked the "Diamond Knife" replica cookie for the DuPont Co. Kathy Seamen will offer a Basket Weaving Workshop Oct. 7, Seamen started making baskets as a simple hobby and developed her skill into a successful business. she owns a shop, tours the Arts and Crafts circuit and holds basket weaving workshops. Workshops later in the fall will include Lonnie Boussa's Wood burning workshop and Jim Donovan's Rhythmic Motivation Workshop in November. Sign-ups are available now. |
