CERAMICS INSTRUCTOR Dick Lang Dick has been making pots since 1973 after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Alfred College of Ceramics, Alfred, NY. He was a student of Val Cushing, Robert Turner, Daniel Rhodes, Wally Higgins, Bill Parry, Glenn Zweygardt, and Bill Underhill. “My work has gone through quite a few changes over the years. I started with stoneware and in 1981 I switched to porcelain. The past few years I am back to primarily stoneware fired in my gas kiln. Even though I try many different techniques and ideas, simplicity and elegance have always been the things I strive for. I like simple forms, clean lines and for the most part, glaze in subtle colors without painted designs. Many of my pots are related to forms and colors I see in our surrounding environment.” Dick has exhibited at many fine craft shows and galleries and he has been honoured with many awards. He has taught classes and workshops off and on during his career. He is a full time studio potter and sells his work from his studio as well as in galleries and shows. 2-D CRITIQUE INSTRUCTOR Wanda Dean Wanda Dean has studied under Katherine Nelson, Cole Young, and Tom Buechner. For the past 15 years, she has been painting under Fritz Lipp, attending critiquing classes for in Rochester, NY. Wanda works mostly in oil paints, although she has experience with many mediums and surfaces. “I lived in a rural setting where there were wonderful trees, hills and quiet places where I could escape to and use my imagination to create my own "world". Because I so loved these places it is natural that I eventually became, for the most part a landscape painter. I am struck by the strong lights and colors in the landscapes and it is the drama of these elements that compels me to start a painting. I stop painting when I feel that I have captured the passion that I perceive.” |
