BIOGRAPHY: Ten multi-instrumental members of The Buddhahood cook up a frothing melting-pot of ideas in which diverse musical influences converge in the creation of tunes with innovation, nuance, and pure groove power. The bands original style has been coined Worldternative, so within this music, audiences hear reggae, calypso, samba, afro-beat, funk, blues, and rock in any given performance. Along with seven vocalists, the poly-instrumentation includes mega-multi-percussion, a full horn section, steel drum, bass, drums, and guitar.
All their variety and craziness contributes to a dynamically colorful, electric show that attracts an audience as eclectic as the band itself. You can never expect the same thing at any two shows. What you can expect is a performance full of surprises, many dancing bodies, perspiration, an elevated heart rate, and creative tunes that are as uplifting spiritually and emotionally as they are physically.
Known for blurring the imaginary line at the edge of the stage, The Buddhahood becomes one with the audience in a bewitching frenzy of unstoppable vibration and elemental harmony. We let the music play us, says the bass player, reminding us that everything is connected. The Buddhahood has regionally toured in support of their 2006 release, Muddy Roots and continues now with their latest double live disc Toasty, which is a testament to their late great founder and Bodhisattva, Tony Cavagnaro.
